Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He was eccentric and made it difficult to tell whether or not he was lying or telling the truth. Johnny Depp played Willy Wonka in the more recent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Although he retained some of the same fashion as the original Willy Wonka character, he portrayed the character as even more odd and slightly less charismatic.
