High Five > or < Fist Bump?

Yesterday's Inequality here!

High Five: The origin of the high five is thought to come from sports but it is likely that the high five has much earlier beginnings as a congratulatory gesture.

Fist Bump: Another variation of a congratulatory/welcoming gesture, the fist bump came into popular use through sports in the 1970s.

  1. I believe that each gesture has a time and place . . . the fist bump is good for welcoming and minor congrats . . . the high five is better for high intensity moments, like when the Packers score touchdowns in Super Bowl XLV. You need to be careful with the high five because if used in a moment that is not intense enough there is the possibility of finger-locking and lingering which can be awkward. The fist bump takes that awkwardness away, that is probably why it was introduced.

Finally, learn how to spell "beginnings" Mr. Copy and Paste!
