Yesterday's Inequality here! Confetti poppers emit a loud popping sound and discharge an explosion of confetti streamers when the string is pulled. While this toy is incredibly fun to play with, it soon becomes a terrible annoyance. The loud popping noise is annoying to listen to all night and may even make you jump a few times. The confetti pieces are usually tiny and make clean-up a real chore, especially if you've just hosted a kid-friendly New Year's party the night before. Noisemakers come in all sorts of varieties, making all sorts of noises. A common one on New Year's Eve is the ratchet. No matter what device is used, the instrument's sole purpose is pure cacophony. The sound is heard everywhere throughout the night and increases as the anticipation for the clock to strike midnight grows. And when the moment comes, the noise drowns out every conversation as the new year is welcomed by a loud, cheering crowd.

Sheriff Woody > or < Buzz Lightyear of Space Command
Yesterday’s Inequality here! Sheriff Woody is an old-fashioned pull string doll that comes to life and says phrase such as “There’s a snake in my boot!” and “Reach for the sky.” He was originally the sole leader of Andy’s toys, but eventually becomes co-leader, along with Buzz. While Woody can have bouts of jealousy if his position as Andy’s favorite toy is threatened, he always comes around to realize his shortcomings and ends up strengthening his relationships. Woody is most known for his undying loyalty to Andy and the other toys, rescuing the latter on numerous occasions. Buzz Lightyear of Space Command is a new, cool toy with all the gadgets and buttons a new toy should have. He has a retractable helmet, a belt housing his anti-gravity button, and a control panel on his chest that activates his wings and other accessories. On top of that he glows in the dark. Although Buzz initially thought he was a Space Ranger, he eventually came to realize and accept his role as a toy. His bravery and courage played a large part in saving the toys and leading them through many trying situations.

Mac > or < PC?
Yesterday's inequality here! Macs are hip and cool. They are a very sleek computer and the apple logo is obviously awesome. They have a reputation for not crashing or having a virus corrupt their system. Macs are very intuitive, especially for people who are not computer savvy. When something is plugged in - it works. They are simple, easy to use, and can do a lot of cool things. Unfortunately, they also aren't very easy to upgrade or alter for the people who do like to mess around with their computers to increase performance. PCs are easily customized and upgradeable. They can run various operating systems and are generally more powerful (depending on how you customize it). Gamers definitely want a PC which allows the freedom to tweak their components how they wish and modify their systems. Although most viruses are made for PCs, most software is also made for PC operating systems. This makes things easy to use without messing around too much. Ben and Shelly |

They are made with a variety of materials and come in every color imaginable. They are appropriate for most occasions and go with anything from skirts to jeans, not to mention they're extremely reasonably priced. Flip-flops can be warn in the water, too. Plus, crocs are just weird lookin'.

Kittens > or < Puppies?
The weekend's Inequality here! Check last week's results here! Kittens are very clean and adorable pets. They require extremely little potty-training and constantly bathe themselves. You don't have to worry about picking up their poop with only a thin sandwich bag between your hand and fecal matter, nor do you have to fear stepping in a fresh turd left on the walkway. They don't drool, slobber, or permanently stain your couch cushions with the stench of wet dog. On top of their cleanliness, kittens are also very playful. They're always ready to hunt down a hand scratching the carpet or rolled up cardboard at the end of a wire. You can even get them to pant! Which leads me to next point. Kittens are heart-meltingly precious. When kittens aren't playing, they're usually sleeping. Tiny little balls of fur tucked in a tuft of blankets, getting cuter with every yawn and stretch. However, while all kittens love their primary care-givers, some grow into cats that are stand-offish or afraid of people, especially when raised in a less than ideal environment. Puppies are cute, playful, and cuddly pets. They have some of the softest fur and love to be around people. Undying loyalty starts from day one and although a bit rebellious at first, puppies eventually learn to hang on your every word and become much more trainable than a kitten would ever be. A puppies little bark is one of the sweetest sounds and their eyes can soften even the hardest hearts. |

Reindeer > or < Elves
RESULTS: Reindeer > Elves 2 to 1 Yesterday's inequality here! Elves make the toys for children all year round. If they did not perform this important task then Santa wouldn't have any presents to deliver. They are essential in helping Santa get ready for the big day and spreading Christmas cheer. |

Gingerbread > or < Sugar cookie cut-outs
RESULTS: Christmas Cut-outs > Gingerbread 9 to 3 Yesterday's inequality here! Gingerbread was brought to Europe in 992; however, it wasn't until Queen Victoria and Prince Albert included it with a variety of German Christmas traditions that the gingerbread became associated with Christmas. Since the 1930's, children in the US have left milk and gingerbread cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve night. The cookies can be cut in many shapes, including candy canes, reindeer, and snowmen, and can be decorated with any kind of frosting and candies. The modern Christmas sugar cookie cutout has a more recent history. The sugar cookie was first introduced by the Movarians who settled in the Nazareth area from Germany in the mid 18th century. Although they were plain at first, they have now evolved to be covered in rich frosting and sprinkles of all colors and shapes. The cookies themselves are generally cutouts of Christmas figures and traditions; making them festive, decorative, and delicious. |

Give > or < Receive?
RESULTS: Giving > Receiving 10 to 6 Yesterday's inequality here! Giving a gift is an act of generosity that many rarely experience but a few times a year. "'Tis better to give than to receive" we're told; and this can be true for a number of reasons. Nothing is better than when you get the perfect gift and can't wait for the look on your friend's face. Or when you surprise your Mother with something hand-made and it truly moves her. And how about giving a gift to someone who needs it more than yourself? Giving a gift may not be completely altruistic, as sometimes you can score major points with the right choice, but it does make us feel good. It gives us a sense of fulfillment as we contribute at least a bit to our fellow human beings and makes us realize, in some cases, how good we really do have it. Receiving a gift is an exciting and joyful occasion. It means someone took the time to think of an item that would be perfect for you and only you. You get to rip a bunch of elaborate gift wrap and shiny bows (that inevitably become hats) off of a package that holds unknown contents, unless, of course, it's a CD or DVD. Think back to childhood. This is what kids stay up all night for! This is what makes winter worthwhile. The suspense and excitement from seeing a pile of differently wrapped gifts that vary in size is what the Christmas high is all about. Lastly and most importantly, you get something without paying for it. |

Rudolph > or < Frosty
RESULTS: Rudolph > Frosty 13 to 5 Yesterday's Inequality here! Rudolph the red nosed reindeer is a story of a young reindeer who is picked on by all of the others for being different because of his bright red nose. The other reindeer don't include him in their reindeer games and call him names. Then, on a foggy Christmas Eve, Santa asked him to lead the sleigh through low-visibility conditions with his bright red nose. After essentially saving Christmas, Rudolph became the most popular reindeer of all and has songs, stories, and movies to tell his tale. |

Cheez-It > or < Cheese Nips?
RESULTS: Cheez-It > Cheese Nips 13 to 3 The weekend's Inequality here! Cheez-It is an American snack food cracker sold by Sunshine Biscuit Company. They are made with wheat flour, sharp yellow cheese, vegetable oil, spices, and salt. The crackers come in many varieties, including white cheddar, parmesan, pepper jack, reduced trans fat, garlic, Italian four cheese, and others. Cheese Nips are a square-shaped cheese cracker sold by Nabisco in order to compete with Sunshine's Cheez-It. They come in a few varieties, including four cheese, reduced-fat cheddar, and cheddar. |

Fan Friday: Paper > or < Plastic?
Results: Plastic > Paper 7 to 4 Yesterday's Inequality here Paper grocery bags are made of a single layer of paper and are not waterproof. Having just one layer and no coating makes these bags the most easily recyclable. Over 50% of paper is recycled, in fact. The paper used to make these bags comes either from trees or previously recycled paper. The bags that are not recycled do eventually break down into organic material. Although paper bags can typically fit more volume in them, they cannot bear much weight and rip easily, especially when damp. Plastic grocery bags are created using polyethylene. This product makes these bags somewhat durable, malleable, and watertight. Polyethylene is also recyclable although less than 6% of plastic bags are actually recycled. These bags can be either melted down and reformed into more rigid forms or turned back into plastic bag material. Unlike paper, however, the plastics that are not recycled are not biodegradable and keep their shape and structure for thousands of years. These bags are normally smaller than paper bags, however, they can hold more weight and are not weakened when wet. Of course there is the "reusable" bag, but that is not the issue at hand. *Thanks to Robbie |

Coffee > or < Tea?
12 to 6
Yesterday's Inequality here Tea is made from steeping the leaves or buds of the camellia sinesis plant in water. It comes in varieties of white, yellow, green, oolong, black, and pu-erh. All of these teas, however, come from the same species of plant which originates in South and East Asia. The contents of tea include catechins (an antioxidant), caffeine, as well as small amounts of theobromine (an alkaloid used as a vasodilator, diuretic, and heart stimulant), and theophylline (used in therapy for respiratory diseases). There are many health benefits from tea as some studies have shown it to possibly have positive effects in prevention of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. It has also demonstrated boosting mental alertness and immune system as well as reducing stress hormones after challenging tasks. Coffee is a brewed beverage prepared from coffee beans. These roasted seeds come from coffee cherries that grow on trees in over 70 countries, cultivated largely in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa. It is thought that coffee originated in Ethiopia in approximately the 15th Century. Depending on the bean's growing region and genetic subspecies, the beverage can have different flavors and aromas, typically named by the growing region (Columbian, Java, Kona). Coffee can be consumed in many varieties including hot, iced, blended, decaf, cappuccino, macchiato, latte, or in certain liqueurs. Studies have shown the contents of coffee to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes type 2, cirrhosis, and gout, but increase the risk of acid reflux. |

*NSYNC > or < Backstreet Boys?
*NSYNC > Backstreet Boys
15 to 5
Yesterday's Inequality here *NSYNC, formed in 1995, is an American boy band. They play a mix of pop, soul, a capella, and hip-hop, and have performed with many artists including Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder, Britney Spears, and Elton John. They’ve appeared on The Simpsons and performed a song for Pokémon: The First Movie. The group consisted of Justin Timberlake (enough said?), JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. The band was ultimately formed in Orlando, Florida through many connections of each individual member. The name, *NSYNC, came from Justin’s mother commenting on how “in sinc” the boys were and is also a play on the boy’s names: JustiN, ChriS, JoeY, JasoN, and JC. *NSYNC (1998), the first album, sold poorly at first, but six months after release, made the Top Ten. Their second album, No Strings Attached (2000), sold one million copies the first day and 2.45 million the first week, setting a one-week U.S. sales record. The third album, Celebrity (2001), sold nearly 1.9 million copies the first week, eventually becoming the group’s third album to sell over 10 million copies. They received 8 Grammy nominations, but never won. U.S. Peak Album Positions *NSYNC (1998): 2 No Strings Attached (2000): 1 Celebrity (2001): 1 The Backstreet boys, formed in 1993, are an American pop boy band. They play a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and dance club pop and their debut album, Backstreet Boys (1996), charted the Top Ten in nearly every country in Europe. The band was originally a quintet composed of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell. Nick, Howie, and A.J met each other in Orlando, Florida through auditions. Kevin was then introduced through a co-worker at Disney World and eventually invited his cousin Brian to join the group. Lou Pearlman held auditions to start a boy band and ended up selecting all five as they met his expectations. They were named the Backstreet Boys after Orlando’s Backstreet flea market. The band is now down to four, as Kevin left the group to pursue other interests in 2006. They received 3 Grammy Nominations but no wins. U.S. Peak Album Positions* Millenium (1999): 1 Black & Blue (2000): 1 Never Gone (2005): 3 Unbreakable (2007): 7 This is Us (2009): 9 *first two albums Backstreet Boys (1996) and Backstreet’s Back (1997) were not originally released in the U.S. |

Dishes > or < Laundry?
Laundry > Dishes
10 to 7
Yesterday's Inequality here While laundry takes, overall, longer than doing the dishes, it is an altogether cleaner process. Dishes involves dipping your hands in a putrid mixture of soap and reject food chunks for a prolonged enough period of time that your fingers become pruned. This concoction can include anything from bottom-of-the-bowl Fruity Pebbles to molded leftovers from last month. At worst, your hands touch dirty clothes for a few seconds, transferring them from the hamper to the washing machine. From that point on, all you touch are freshly clean clothes. Sure, folding is a time-consuming process, but feeling and smelling the warm, “spring fresh” clothing makes it well worth it. Laundry is a boring, torturing, drawn-out process of waiting, whereas dishes can be done as fast as you can clean them. Although the task of washing was originally done by hand (outrageous) followed by air drying (ridiculous), it is now more commonly done using washing machines and dryers. This does take most of the work out of everyday laundry, however there has yet to be a commercial "laundry folding" or "laundry putting away" machine. This makes laundry mundane and slavish since once start, you are tied down and obligated to finish it. Additionally, clothes are often ruined by shrinking or coloring in the process if not careful. |

Lord of the Rings > or < Star Wars
Today's Inequality:
Lord of the Rings > Star Wars
7 to 5
Lord of the Rings embodies every element of fantasy adventure from the green grass and rolling hills of the Shire to the gates of Mordor. Gandalf sets the example for what a wizard should be: dominant and all-knowing. The lore of Sauron and the creation of the rings is a tale in itself; and the character Gollum leaves quite the impression. The villains are as dark as the heroes are light and the battles are as classic as the story itself.
Main Protaganists: Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Sam, Frodo, Boromir, Gandalf, Pippin, Merry, Galadriel
Main Villains: Sauron, Saruman
Star Wars is the quintessential science fiction/fantasy story. It is the origin of possibly one of the greatest weapons ever, the light-saber. Powers like Force Push and Force Lightning are also available in combat to those powerful enough to access them. To accompany these impressive abilities is the epic struggle between Light and Dark, one of the most bad-ass and complex villains, and a couple great (if not odd) love stories to boot. Many games and videos have spawned from these films including duels, Star Wars Kid, Space Balls and this great clip from Triumph.
Main Protaganists: Yoda, Luke Sywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker (haha), Hans Solo, Princess Leia, Padme, C3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca, Mace-mothafucking-Windu
Main Villains: Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine
